Francesco Tortorella

Francesco Tortorella is Professor of Computer Engineering at the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering (DIEI) of the University of Cassino e Lazio Meridionale, Italy. His research activity focuses on pattern recognition, image analysis and processing and machine learning. He has been working on general techniques for statistical classification, medical image analysis and understanding, document analysis, neural networks, shape analysis and description. His current research interests include medical image analysis, techniques for reliable classification, statistical learning, multiple classifier systems, two-class classification.
On these topics he has authored more than 100 papers in international refereed journals and conferences.
Francesco Tortorella is on the Editorial Board of Pattern Recognition Letters (Elsevier) as an Associate Editor. He served as Guest Editor for a special issue of Pattern Recognition Letters on ROC Analysis in Pattern Recognition, June 2006 and as Guest Editor (with M. Pechenizkiy, A. Tsymbal and P.Soda) for a special issue of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine on Computer Based Medical Systems, 2009. He is also reviewer for many international journals. He co-chaired (with Paolo Soda) the 25th IEEE International Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems (CBMS 2012) held in Rome, Italy, on 20-22 June 2012. He has been on the program committee of many important international conferences and workshop on statistical pattern recognition, image analysis, medical image analysis. He is a senior member of the IEEE, IEEE Computer Society and IEEE Computational Intelligence Society and a member of the Italian Chapter of the International Association for Pattern Recognition.
